Jewellery Display

I’ve got some images together of the new jewellery display layout I’ve been testing.  It made it’s first appearence last month at the event I was asked to do with the Princes Scottish Youth Business Trust (PSYBT).

I was intrigued as to how the display would be received, as it’s been a while since i’ve taken part in a public event (mental note need to do more).  It went down well anyway with lots of compliments and interest in both the jewellery and the overall look of the stand.  I’ve re-constructed it again here in the studio which keeps it looking smart for any clients that come and see me.

I wasn’t sure if the green sparkle sand would be too stong for the colours I already use in the jewellery, but I think it creates a nice base for the jewellery to elevate itself from.  Let me know if you think otherwise or have any other ideas for me, it’s always great to get feedback!

Portage: Finger Symbols Film

Finger Symbols is an exhibition I’m currently taking part in on the island of Shetland.  The exhibition was supported by the Scottish Arts Council and a film of the rings has been made as well as some lovely photography of the jewellery.

Look for the piano scene at about 3 minutes in and you should catch a glimpse of my structured rings dancing around.

I’m not sure how I feel about the actual video, it’s not really my cup of tea to be honest – but I do love the idea of the video being made to show everyone’s work that is in the exhibtion and I think it’s a fabulous medium to use to reach out to wider audiences bringing the boundries down- especially for a gallery situated on Shetland!

It would also have been nice for everyone’s names to have been used in the publicity for the show, not sure why they didn’t have this anywhere?

Borgezie Diamond Stiletto Shoe

Likened to the Faberge Egg and the Stradivarius Violin.  mind-blowing and fabulously over the top craftsmanship from The House of Borgezie – would you wear a pair? I wonder which celeb will be investing in these shoes with a 1000 year guarantee.  The shoes retail from £100,000 and are set with 2,200 brillant cut diamonds.

Elphicks

Whilst perusing through twitter I came across Sharon Elphick, for the sake of this post I would descibe her as a printmaker/designer, she works across a few different mediums though.  I first came across her work back in 2003 when I was living in London and working for Katy Clark a jewellery designer based at Cockpit Arts, Katie had a studio just down the corridor from Sharon and I would often sneak a peak through the window to see what she was up to!

Anyway, she now has her own shop called Ephicks which stocks an array of affordable prints and artworks from both up and coming and established artists.

I love this picture by Charley Harper, it’s Art Deco -tastic! A current area of fascination for me.See Sharons blog at http://elphicks.wordpress.com/
